Cattle

Highland Cows are a smaller friendlier breed that have horns and long, wavy, woolly coats that come in all colors. They are primarily raised for meat, but also used for milk. They are known as the “fluffy cow”. Their meat is well marbled and normally rated as premium beef.

Irish Dexter are a small, friendly breed with three uses; milk, meat and trained as oxen. They are very hardy and can thrive in cold or hot climates. Their beef is also well marbled and rated as premium

Kune Kune Pigs

They have short snouts and are grazing pigs. They are sweet-tempered, medium sized pigs that came from New Zealand. Females average 175-275 pounds while males can reach 300-350 pounds or more. KuneKune’s are slower to mature pigs and produce a rich, red marbled meat. They are becoming the preferred choice for many chefs across the US.

Ducks

Muscovy Ducks are the largest of all the ducks in the world. They are very social and we use these ducks for hatching and eating eggs and meat. They have stronger-tasting meat — sometimes compared to roast beef, but lean when compared to the fatty meat of mallard-derived ducks.

Cayuga Ducks one of the hardiest of the domestic duck breeds. They can obtain most of their diet from foraging when given good areas to explore for food. Cayuga’s can lay 100 to 150 eggs per year that can be used for general eating and baking purposes. Eggs are initially black in color.

Chickens

American Bresse are a Tri Purpose breed for their EGGS: American Bresse chickens are excellent egg-layers. They are likely to start laying eggs by week 17, and they lay close to an egg a day through Spring, Summer, and Autumn. Many American Bresse chickens lay 250 eggs per year, or more. MEAT: American Bresse chickens are also fast growing meat birds. They grow faster than the usual dual purpose breeds such as Rhode Island Red or Plymouth Rock.

FLAVOR: Additionally, American Bresse have the same unique meat quality and intense flavor that French Bresse chickens are known for. They are described as the “most delicious chicken in France” due to the fat-marbled meat sought after by renowned chefs. And they command a commensurate price in French markets.

Silkie chickens are a unique breed known for their fluffy feathers, soft appearance, and friendly demeanor. Originating from China, they stand out due to their distinct silky plumage, which lacks barbicels (the hooks that hold typical feathers together), giving them a soft, fur-like appearance. They’re docile birds, often sought after as pets for their gentle nature and adaptability to different climates. Silkie chickens also lay a fair number of small cream-colored eggs, making them a favorite among backyard chicken enthusiasts.

Goats

Nigerian Dwarfs

Despite their diminutive size, Nigerian Dwarf goats are remarkably productive. They are excellent milk producers, yielding rich, creamy milk that is perfect for making cheese, yogurt, and soap. Despite their small size, their milk has a high butterfat content, making it highly sought after by artisanal cheese makers and home dairy enthusiasts.

Beyond their utility as milk producers, Nigerian Dwarf goats also make wonderful companions. They are known for their friendly and sociable nature, often forming strong bonds with their human caretakers. Their playful antics and inquisitive personalities make them a joy to have around the homestead, providing endless entertainment and companionship.
